Pick three questions: 9. Illustration Fridays have been completed almost every week this semester, do you feel this assignment helped you brainstorm for a main project or helped your skill levels in any way? Why or why not? Illustration Fridays have greatly helped me with my art pieces this year. One positive aspect of doing these assignments is that I have been more creative when coming up with project ideas. When doing my Illustration Fridays, I try to come up with ideas that would not be the first to come to mind. For example, the theme for this piece was "Mother". Instead of drawing a picture of a mom and a child, I chose to draw the Evil Stepmother from Cinderella. These drawings allowed me to branch out and choose ideas that some people would not think of. Another advantage of doing these is that my skill of using colored pencils has developed. I have gotten much better at using prismacolors, especially layering them to create texture and using them to create shadows and highlights. 10. Regardless of whether a project was successful or not, describe the one where you learned, grew, or developed the most from. Please explain. The project that I learned the most from is the perspective piece. While this is definitely not my most successful piece, I believe that it has helped me become a better artist. Before I had done this piece, I had never done a drawing of a 3D object besides a basic square. I learned how to draw the sides of building and shade them so it looks like a shadow is on them. I also learned how to use the horizon line to base the land and sky off of. Orthogonal lines were the most helpful to me because it gave me the top of the buildings and the grass patches. I was also able to work on my blending and transitioning of colors shown in the sky. 17. Sketchbook: pick any warm-up from your sketchbook that you found beneficial, interesting or simply felt you handled well. Describe the activity and reason for selecting it above the others. Include photo.
The warm-up that was the most beneficial and interesting for me is the oil pastel sphere. I learned how to draw highlight and to use yellow when drawing the highlight. I also learned how to draw the core and cast shadows. It was my first time working with oil pastels and I really enjoyed using them. The blended together very nicely and I liked how smooth they were on the paper when I was coloring with them. I feel that this is my best sphere drawing. Although I messed up the shadow on the table, I feel like I handled it well and was able to make it look more realistic.
